Long assets do not fit inside visual line of sight.

Dykes, pipelines, power lines, rail and port infrastructure are exactly what drones are good at, and they tend to run well past the limits of the open category.

Why it needs an authorisation

Going beyond visual line of sight, or flying close to infrastructure in or near populated areas, generally takes an operation out of the open category. Where it does not fit a standard scenario, the operator needs an operational authorisation. Because asset owners tend to work with fixed sites and repeated flights, inspection operators benefit strongly from reusing approved work across locations.

What drives your risk

  • Ground riskDepends on the area overflown. A dyke in Zeeland and a port next to a city produce very different population density figures, even with the same aircraft.
  • Air riskLow-level flight over rural land in uncontrolled airspace generally starts lower than urban flight or flight near aerodromes. Sites near a control zone need more attention.
  • ContainmentA corridor along an asset needs a clear flight geography, contingency volume and ground risk buffer. Long corridors make these volumes large.

How Hespoire helps

Hespoire treats each new asset as a change to an existing file: same aircraft, same organisation, new geography. Only the sections the new location touches need new work.
